Back to my sponsor child... She celebrated her birthday December 5th and even got Christmas December 25th. I received my first letter fromher after writting my letter introducing myself. It was short, but selfless and sweet. She thanked me for all i'd already done for her and even for her family (The child with the monthly money gets food and things needed. Additional money the child gets what he or she wants or needs). She told me that she wishes me happiness. The thing that touched me the most is she asked not for prayers for her, but for her father who just had arm surgery. Her father is the only working member in this family of three so this is a big deal. This sweet heartfelt letter was sent with a very well drawn and sweet picture of her home a smiling sun and a giant flower, a photo of her drawing the picture she sent, her eye color shown on a black and white printed eye, a map with her country and location colored in (she even colored the word Guatemala written below the map), and her tiny little finger print. This letter made my day and a smile that couldn't be erased.
And before you ask that spanish you see you can flip it over to the other side where little Maylin drew her picture and they will translate what your child is saying no matterwhat country that child is from. Once I received this letter I did two things. I got all the things I was to sending with the letter together and wrote the letter itself. Where the first letter was sent with photos, some stickers, and the letter itself. I sent with this second letter a thing of stickers, two drawings I'd drawn (One of which was of her), A picture of a rose I had taken the summer before, along with the long written letter. The second thing I did was send Maylin and her family twenty-five dollars to help out. That amount may not seem like a lot, but I truth its a nice amount there.
http://www.facebook.com/compassionintl?ref=ts&fref=ts. I was always afraid of trusting these kinds of organizations due to the possibility of scams or the possibility that most of the money wouldn't go to the child. This one does stick to their word; take it from all of the positive feedback from everyone involved with the organization. Compassion is definitely a winner. And get this if I ever save up the money to go I can go visit Maylin in Guatemala. As you could visit your sponsor child too. I love the fact that I can make a difference in Maylin's life and give her a better chance at whatever she decides to pursue in life.
